Golf Management Australia (GMA)

CONTEXT

Golf Management Australia (GMA) is a national body representing the golf club management industry and is responsible for the delivery of day-to-day operational activities and services to state associations across Australia. They have a strong, supportive membership base that are working together to improve and support professional leadership in the golf management and club management sectors.

BRIEF

The brief from GMA was to create a clear strategic focus for the next 3 years. This brief included providing guidance to the board and senior executives on how best to implement and monitor the strategic plan throughout the organisation and with key stakeholders.

APPROACH

A strategic planning team consisting of Board and Senior Executives met for a half-day to refocus their vision, and identify the 3-4 key strategies required for the next 3 years. A short survey was sent to key stakeholders to ascertain their views on key issues facing the organisation and the sector.

RESULTS

A new vision was developed which clearly articulated the difference that GMA could make and why they existed. The planning team identified three key strategies that would enable them to position themselves for the future, and integrated these with the new vision statement. These strategies were then operationalised to include action plans that highlighted time frames and success measures to ensure that the the Board could hold themselves accountable. Powerful discussions were conducted about how best to integrate the new strategic plan into the operational activities of the organisation.
Techniques were explored for how to launch this plan to key stakeholders, and how to review and monitor the strategic plan on an ongoing basis.
