Context
CEHL is is a registered Housing Association, a provider and developer of affordable housing. CEHL partners with independent co-operatives to provide services to deliver an effective, sustainable, co-operative housing program.

The brief
The brief was to design and undertake a board governance review, present an action plan to the board, and improve effectiveness for aligning to contemporary better practices. In addition, the brief was to develop a new board manual and policy sweep, provide recommendations on governance training courses for directors and prospective directors, and provide a pre-induction, and induction program for potential and new Directors.
The approach
After analysing existing board processes, documentation and decision-making, a series of recommendations were developed to further enhance governance. An individual report was developed for each Director to assist in their personal development. A board manual and policy sweep was delivered, and an induction program (including an online component) was implemented.
Results
The results were that the organisation now has a contemporary set of board policies, a comprehensive, well-designed inter-linked board manual. They also have a series of induction programs that cater for prospective or new directors, whether experienced or inexperienced.
